Republican Niraj Antani was sworn in Tuesday to fill the month remaining on the Ohio House term left vacant when state Rep. Terry Blair died in June.

Antani will represent the 42nd district which covers most southern Montgomery County suburbs including Miamisburg, Miami Twp., Germantown and West Carrollton areas.

Last month, Antani beat Democrat Patrick Merris to win the seat for the upcoming two-year term that starts in January.

Antani, 23, is currently a law student at University of Dayton and was named 2013 College Republican of the Year by the Ohio College Republican Federation.

"As our state moves forward into the future to address a series of complicated and important issues, it is imperative that Ohioans of all perspectives and persuasions have their voice heard at the Statehouse," House Speaker William Batchelder said in a statement Tuesday. "I trust that Representative Antani will be a hardworking, responsive and loyal servant to the residents of the 42nd House District."
