The Gold Medal is the highest civilian award that Congress can award to a person. Congress last year approved a resolution awarding the medal to Nicklaus. It was sponsored by Rep. Pat Tiberi, R-Genoa Twp., and signed by President Barack Obama.
"When most people hear the name Jack Nicklaus, they think of the mark Jack has made on the game of golf,” Boehner said. “To us Ohioans, he’s much more than that – he’s one of our own. I look forward to celebrating Jack’s many accomplishments, and I thank my colleague from Ohio, Pat Tiberi,
for sponsoring the bill that made this possible.”
