Speaking mostly from script, until he began to close and ad lib, Trump balanced a mix of his closed border policy and hard stand on law and order; and reaching out to Bernie Sanders supporters and LGTBQ communities, while making note of the troubles faced by citizens over race in places such as Ferguson.
He promised a return of law and order. He said the election comes at a time of trouble for our country, with attacks on our police and terror in our cities.
"I've seen the images of violence on our streets. The crime and violence that has afflicted our nation will soon come to an end."
"If you want to hear the corporate spin, the crafted lies, the Democrats hold their convention next week. Here, we will honor the American people with the truth."
"Decades of progress in bringing down crime are being brought to an end by a rollback in support from Washington."
Trump attacked the administration for not stopping crime from illegal aliens. He used the story of a 20-year-old college student as an example of the leniency given illegal criminals and the lack of care they give the average American citizens.
"Our citizens have had to endure one international humiliation one after the other."
He brought up Iran capturing U.S. sailors on the eve of the Iran nuclear deal, which he said gave billions back to Iran and will go down as one of the worst deals in history and did nothing to change anything.
Trump used Benghazi as an example of Hillary Clinton's results as Secretary of State. "Her bad instincts and bad judgment, something said by Bernie Sanders, have been (disastrous)."
He said Libya, Egypt and Syria are in ruins since Clinton was put in charge of foreign policy. ISIS didn't grow until the Obama administration.
"This is the legacy of Hillary Clinton: death, destruction, terrorism and weakness. But Hillary Clinton's legacy, doesn't have to be our legacy."
"Our problems only last as long as the politicians that created them in the first place."
Trump introduced a plan, one he said "would put America first," which brought chants of USA from the crowd.
- We won't respect nations that don't treat us with the respect America deserves
- The American people will come first once again.
- Safe neighborhoods, safe borders, safe streets - there can't be prosperity without law and order.
- On the economy, he will implement reforms for millions of jobs and trillions of income. These reforms will be opposed by many who have rigged the system for their business.
- "Big business, elite media, and major donors are lining up behind my opponent because they know she will keep our weak system in place. They throw money at her because she's their puppet and they pull the strings."
- Trump mentioned "rebuilding" America as part of his economic plan, with no actual specifics, maybe a hint toward infrastructure focus.
- "I've visited towns crushed by our horrible trade deals. These are the forgotten people of our country. But they aren't going to be forgotten long. They work hard, but they no longer have a voice - I am your voice."
Trump took a long silence, maybe for a distraction by protesters. Trump stood as the audience cheered his name. He then thanked the police and thanked Cleveland, before getting back on point.
On the government's system built on lobbyists, Trump said he won't accept it. He said if Clinton can delete 30,000 classified emails and get away with it, I know corruption has reached a new level in this country.
"When foreign interests can buy special access, I know the time for action has come."
Trump said he joined the political arena to defend people who can't defend themselves.
"Nobody knows the system better than me," Trump said with a shrug and a laugh. "And I've seen how it's built against the common person."
He said millions of Democrats and Bernie Sanders supporters will join their movement, because Sanders' most important issue was our bad job deals. They'll want justice for ordinary people.
He brought up the recent surge in shootings of police officers, saying "An attack on law enforcement is an attack on all of us."
"I have a message to every person threatening our streets and our police, I will restore law and order to our country. I will work with and appoint the best and brightest law enforcement officials to get the job done. In this racec for the White House, I am the law and order candidate."
He said the people in Ferguson, Baltimore deserve the same treatment and protection as everyone else.
Trump pivoted to terrorism, saying "we will defeat the barbarians of ISIS and we will defeat the fast."
He mentioned the recent attacks in France: "The damage and devastation inflicted by Islamic terrorism has been shown over and over ... Only weeks ago in Orlando, 49 wonderful Americans were killed. They targeted the LGBTQ - no good, we're going to stop it. As your president, I'll do everything to protect those citizens from a hateful ideology.
"As a Republican, it's so nice to hear you cheering for what I just said."
"The regime change Clinton pushed in Iraq, Libya, Egypt and Syria failed, we instead must work with all our allies and we are going to win and we are going to win fast. We have the greatest allies in that region - the state of Israel. Recently I said NATO was obsolete because it didn't address terror and other countries weren't paying their fair share. Shortly after, it was announced NATO would set up a new program to fight terrorism - a true step in the right direction."
Trump said immigration must be stopped from any country inflicted with terror until the terrorists are dealt with. A line he ad libed and wasn't in his script.
He said Clinton wants a 550 percent increase in refugees from countries with severe terrorism groups.
"Anyone who supports violence, hatred and repression will never be allowed in our country."
"Decades of our current immigration policy has meant lower wages for American people, especially African Americans and Latinos."
"My opponent wants sanctuary cities. But where was the sanctuary for Kate Steinle?"
Trump said he will build a "great border wall" to stop inner city violence and to stop drugs coming into the country.
"We will be compassionate to everyone, but we will be compassionate the most to our citizens who need it most."
"I've made billions in business deals, I'm going to make our country rich again."
"It was Bill Clinton who signed NAFTA, one of the worst trade deals signed by any country. I'm going to bring jobs back to Michigan and Ohio ... and I'm not letting companies leave this county to leave their employees without jobs."
He said Hillary has supported every bad trade deal signed. Her husband put us in the WTO, which was a disaster.
He said the U.S. would no longer do deals with countries on a massive basis, or do trade with a country that cheats, such as China, their illegal conduct, currency manipulation and cheating on deals. All deals will be totally re-negotiated.
He said the U.S. would negotiate trade deals on a country-by-country basis. He said he will propose the largest tax reduction of any candidate who has ran this year, Democrat or Republican. He said Clinton would raise taxes while he reforms the tax code.
Trump promised to lift energy restrictions as well as massive infrastructure reform and millions of new jobs.
Trump hit on his keystone issues toward the end; law and order, trade repeatedly, illegal immigration before wrapping up, promising to "make America great again," his campaign motto that has adorned the familiar red cap he wore regularly throughout his campaign.
