Republican candidate Donald Trump emerged on stage from a background of white light, with two teleprompters simultaneously elevating as he strolled to the podium and the crowd stood and cheered. Queen's "We Are The Champions" played. He introduced his wife, Melania.
Melania Trump said she came to the United States from Slovenia. She said she experienced the ups and downs of American life before making it in fashion. One of her proudest days was becoming an American citizen in 2006.
"If you want someone to fight for your country, (Donald) is the guy. He will never, ever give up and he won't ever let you down. He's always been an amazing leader and now he will go to work for you."
She mentioned former Kansas Senator and 1996 Republican nominee Bob Dole, who was in the audience. Dole is the only living Republican nominee to attend the convention.
"Our country is under performing and it needs leadership. The world needs leadership, and Donald is the only one who can provide it. Donald wants prosperity for all Americans."
Her husband posed with her on stage as Queen played again, the two walked off holding hands.
