Two certified by NARI

Miami Valley NARI has announced the names of its most recent members to become certified by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI).

The new certified individuals are Christine Balsan of Remodeling Designs Inc. in Centerville and Kent Garber of Garber Contracting in New Paris.

“This designation proves a remodeling contractor’s knowledge, technical comprehension and skill in remodeling,” said Jay Hurst, CR, CRPM, Hurst Total Home, Inc., President of Miami Valley NARI.

A Certified Remodeler (CR) is a professional remodeler who provides a full range of residential and commercial remodeling services. Candidates must prove they possess skill and knowledge in a broad range of business management and technical skill areas.

Mall manager named

Kristie Miller has been promoted to general manager of the Mall at Fairfield Commons.

Miller, of Miamisburg, has served as marketing director for the Beavercreek mall since March 2006. She started with WP Glimcher, the owner of both the Dayton Mall and the Mall at Fairfield Commons, in 2003 in the Dayton Mall’s marketing department.

Miller succeeds Bruce Goldsberry, who left his position as GM for the Mall at Fairfield Commons to become the general manager of Polaris Fashion Place in Columbus.

Paul named COO

Kimberly A. Paul, M.H.A., has been named chief operating officer of Wright State Physicians, one of the largest physician-managed multispecialty groups in the Dayton region, effective Feb. 1, 2016.

Paul was previously the senior business administrator for the Departments of Geriatrics and Surgery at Wright State Physicians and the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. She was responsible for the departments’ fiscal affairs and oversight of practice management.

Paul is a leader in the community and serves on the Dayton Clinical Oncology Program Board of Directors and Michael’s House Child Advocacy Center Board of Directors. She is a member of the Association of Academic Surgical Administrators and the Medical Group Management Association.

Sorg named shareholder

Pickrel, Schaeffer and Ebeling Co., announced that Matthew C. Sorg has become a Shareholder with the firm. Sorg has been with the firm for eight years and he has practiced law over 20 years. He spends the majority of his time offering legal services in all types of domestic relations matters. The types of matters that he is typically involved in include: dissolution, divorce, legal separations, custody, child support, spousal support, property division, prenuptial agreements, and parental rights.

Other business services that he provides on a regular basis include helping small businesses with formation, growth strategies, and purchasing and selling agreements. He has a great deal of experience with administrative law issues surrounding liquor establishments. Additionally, in a commercial foreclosure situation, Sorg is a court appointed Receiver throughout Southern Ohio.

Surowiec joins doctor office

Richard Surowiec, MD, is an internal medicine and pediatric physician who is joining Beavercreek Family Physicians in Beavercreek. Dr. Surowiec received his medical degree from Saint Louis University and completed his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Wright State University.

Bergman now Children’s CFO

Chris Bergman, CPA, joins Dayton Children's as chief financial officer. Bergman is a highly experienced CFO with more than 35 years of experience in health care. Prior to joining Dayton Children's, he most recently held the role of chief financial officer and vice president at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati.

Bergman begins at a pivotal time in Dayton Children’s history, with several major projects already underway. A $153 million patient tower, part of a campus revitalization plan, is in the middle of construction on Dayton Children’s Valley Street location and an expansion of the Springboro Urgent Care location began this fall. It will include expanded access to Dayton Children’s top specialists, an ambulatory surgery center and an emergency department.

Chatman new police chief

The University of Dayton has named Rodney Chatman, a veteran campus law enforcement leader, as executive director of public safety and chief of police.

Chatman has served with the University of Cincinnati’s department of public safety since 2005 and is currently a captain. He starts Jan. 19 and will succeed Bruce Burt, who is retiring next month after 14 years of service.

Chatman said he was drawn to the University’s sense of family and engaged, values-driven campus community.

With a 26-year career in law enforcement, Chatman has worked as a patrol officer, dispatcher, community and school resource officer and supervisor of a multi-jurisdictional SWAT team, among other responsibilities.

Cosby joins Rotary

Paula C. Cosby joined the Dayton Rotary Club on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016. Cosby is the Executive Director for Clothes that Work and a resident of Dayton.

DABR names officers

The Dayton Area Board of Realtors (DABR) swore in the 2016 officers and directors at the Realtors Installation Reception, held at the Taj Ma Garaj on Jan. 7, 2016. The highlight of the event was the inauguration of Michael Martin as president of the 2,500-member association.

Martin, a realtor with Kamela & Company Realty, has been a realtor at the Dayton Area Board of Realtors since 2004. In 2014 he served as DABR treasurer and chairperson of the finance committee, and in 2015 he was elected president-elect and oversaw a number of committees and projects.

Other board officers installed include Karen O’Grady, president-elect, and Bob Morrison, treasurer. Associated with Coldwell Banker Heritage Realtors, O’Grady has been a realtor for 43 years, and Morrison, associated with Irongate Realtors, has been a realtor since 1999.

Newly elected and re-elected realtors to the Board of Directors are Billie Duncan-Hart and Kim Fox, associated with Coldwell Banker Heritage; Gregg Blatt, associated with HER Realtors; Brent Moore, associated with Moore & Associates; Tammy Murphy, associated with RH2L; and Jacob Zimmerman, associated with Keller Williams Advantage Real Estate.

Dennis joins Rotary

Luke Dennis joined the Dayton Rotary Club on Monday, Jan. 11, 2016. Dennis is the Development Director for WYSO Public Radio and a resident of Yellow Springs.

Forcier joins physicians group

Joy Forcier, LISW, has joined Wright State Physicians Family Medicine as the behavioral health clinician for the practice. Forcier assists the primary care physicians and nurse practitioners with patients who may have serious psychosocial issues that interfere with the quality of their health and the adherence to their treatment plans.

Through an integrated health approach, Forcier and a team of medical professionals work together to provide both medical and behavioral health services in one convenient location at the Wright State Physicians Health Center on the campus of Wright State University (725 University Blvd.). As a patient-centered medical home (PCMH), Wright State Physicians Family Medicine is committed to providing a patient-centered, team-based approach that is focused on the patients’ overall well-being.

“Behavioral health is immediate,” said Forcier, who is on call throughout the day to assist the physicians and nurse practitioners. “Patients don’t have to wait for an additional appointment or go to another provider.”

She also helps identify patients who can benefit from the services of the practice’s community health worker, who can link the patients to additional health and social services.

Schmitz appointed

Ohio's Hospice of Dayton has announced the appointment of Wendy Schmitz to serve as Medical Director for Inpatient Care.

Dr. Schmitz joined the Hospice of Dayton medical staff as a Clinical Medical Director in July 2008. She earned her medical degree at the Medical School of Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, CA, and completed her residency at Kettering Medical Center, where she was a Weiffenbach Scholar. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Prior to joining Hospice of Dayton, Dr. Schmitz served as a hospitalist with South Dayton Acute Care Consultants at Miami Valley Hospital and had also served as medical director of sub-acute care units with Arbors of Dayton Long Term Care, Carriage by the Lake Nursing Home, and Hickory Creek Nursing Home.

Two CPAs promoted

Thorn Lewis & Duncan (TLD) announces the promotion of Christina L. Sensenbrenner, CPA and Benjamin J. Tuschong, CPA, two long-term veterans of the 30-year-old accounting, tax and business consulting firm, to shareholders.

Ms. Sensenbrenner, graduated from Sinclair Community College in 1990 with an Associate of Applied Science in Accounting. She has 27 years of public accounting experience. She provides accounting, tax and business consulting services to closely held real estate, manufacturing/distribution and not-for-profit organizations. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants, the National Center for Employee Ownership and CPA Firm Management Association.

Mr. Tuschong, graduated from the University of Dayton in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He provides accounting, tax and business consulting services to closely held companies in the construction, manufacturing/distribution and service industries. He also directs the Employee Benefit Plan audit practice with over 17 years’ experience. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Construction Financial Managers Association.
