Freight brokerage opens local office, could hire 36 people

A Cincinnati-based freight broker is opening a satellite office locally.

The Dayton-area office for Total Quality Logistics, which calls itself the largest closely held firm “of its kind,” has opened at 6525 Centerville Business Parkway, said Kacey King, a spokeswoman for TQL.

Initially, the office will employ 17 people, but the company plans to have 36 employees there by the end of 2012, King said.

TQL arranges shipping of products for thousands of customers across North America, the company said in an announcement Tuesday. It has a network of more than 58,000 carriers, and the Centerville location will be its 10th satellite office, the company said.

“This new team is eager to establish the TQL footprint in Dayton,” Kerry Byrne, the firm’s executive vice president, said in a statement. “We are excited about the opportunities Dayton holds for TQL, both in terms of business expansion and local talent.”

The company said it expects to reach $1 billion in sales this year. Founded in 1997, the company said it is the nation’s fourth largest freight brokerage firm with 1,500 employees in eight states.
