Greyhound picks new Dayton-area location

Greyhound is moving down the road, after its agreement with the Greater Dayton RTA hub in Trotwood expired.

The inter-city bus company said in a statement Wednesday that customers can now board at 5136 Salem Ave., formerly home to a LoanMax and about a half mile from the previous location.

Greyound said the company will operate inside and provide ticketing service, though encourages customers to book online and through its mobile app.

“We are currently working with the city on finalizing our certificate of occupancy in order to begin operations inside the building and provide on location ticketing service,” spokesman Chrisa Head said, adding service is still set to begin Nov. 1.

“We are excited for our new move in Dayton as we continue our long-time service in the area,” Greg Grafeman, director of operations, Greyhound Lines, said in a statement. “With connections to major cities including Detroit, Chicago and Cleveland, we are pleased to continue offering convenient, affordable travel for Dayton residents and visitors.”

Greyhound had previously struck a temporary contract extension to operate at the Northwest Transit Center in Trotwood through Oct. 31, after reaching an agreement with the Greater Dayton RTA to extend their expiring contract.

The Trotwood hub is the only Greyhound stop in the Dayton metropolitan area. Some of the next-closest stops include sites in Springfield, Oxford, Lima and Cincinnati.

According to the RTA, the transit agency and Greyhound were having a dispute because Greyhound wanted to reduce how much it paid the RTA for services like ticketing and providing space for drivers to check in.
