Kindred Hospital Dayton not for sale

Kindred Healthcare Inc., a health care company headquartered in Louisville, Ky., said Thursday it signed a definitive agreement to sell 17 “non-strategic” facilities for $187 million to an affiliate of Vibra Healthcare LLC.

Officials with Kindred Hospital Dayton, owned by the company, confirmed Friday that the sale does not involve the local long-term care hospital, 707 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd.

Kindred operates long-term acute care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, and home health care and hospice businesses across the country.

Kindred Healthcare said in a release it intends to use the proceeds to pay down debt and eventually invest money in home health and hospice acquisitions.

The sale includes 15 transitional care hospitals (licensed as long-term acute care hospitals), one inpatient rehabilitation facility, and one skilled nursing facility, Kindred said.

As a long-term care facility, Kindred Dayton serves medically complex patients needing extended hospital stays.
