Applegate, opened in 1955, manufactures feeding equipment and fences and gates for livestock, according to its website.
The company became a division of Ag Growth International in January 2008. Applegate relocated from Saratoga, Ind. in the fall of 2008 to its news 160,000 square-foot-facility in Union City, Ind.
The employees, which range from accountants to welders, at the plant were told about the closure on Thursday, according to a notice by general manager Brad Miller.
Several messages were left with Miller by this newspaper for response about the closure.
