Local company lands contract to design Fuyao expansion

Woolpert has landed a contract to design an addition to the Fuyao Glass America plant, the company announced today.

The new 17,000-square-foot warehouse has an estimated cost of $1 million. It will house finished automobile glass manufactured at the plant and will be located on the south side of the Moraine site.

James Dobrozsi, Woolpert project director, said in a release the new warehouse will adjoin multiple existing dock doors to allow for maximum on-site storage, while maintaining shipping and receiving traffic.

“We needed to match the existing height and character of the existing building; to give Fuyao a cost-efficient addition that matches the character and function of the existing high-bay building,” Dobrozsi said. “The building will blend in with Fuyao’s new south entrance to maximize the available land on the south side of the property, integrating it with the new entrance off State Route 741 that will open soon.”

Fuyao Glass America is the North American division of Fuyao Glass Industry Group Co., Ltd., a leading international manufacturer of automotive glass, headquartered in the People’s Republic of China. Fuyao employs close to 20,000 people worldwide, including more than 1,200 in Moraine.

This will be the fourth addition to the former General Motors plant since Fuyao purchased the site in 2014. The previous additions, all designed by Woolpert, have provided warehouse, manufacturing and office space.

When this most recent addition is complete, the plant will have expanded from 1.5 million square feet to 1.8 million square feet.

Miller-Valentine Group has been contracted to build the warehouse.

Beavercreek-based Woolpert has 213 employees at its headquarters and 609 total at 24 offices across the country.
