Long-time Huber auto dealer expands

Monty Terrell, owner of Lucky’s Auto Sales, plans to double the size of his car lot, which could result in additional jobs for the longtime Huber Heights business.

Lucky’s Auto Sales, 7549 Brandt Pike, has called Huber Heights home for 28 years. Back in March, Terrell purchased the half-acre property to the north, a former hair salon that closed about two years ago and eventually was foreclosed.

Huber Heights City Council approved the rezoning of that lot, 7555 Brandt Pike, at its meeting earlier this week, allowing Terrell to use that property to sell cars.

“I bought the property to let me expand,” Terrell said. “It gives us a whole lot of room.”

Terrell, who employs two people, said he is “not 100 percent sure” if the expansion will generate more jobs.

His current lot holds 65 to 70 cars, and the new property - once the building that is on site is torn down - will create space for another 70 cars.

“I’d like to knock the building down at some point and then put another building in the back,” Terrell said. “I bought it as an investment because it is booming in this area.”

A family-owned operation, Lucky’s Auto Sales sold 374 cars last year, and Terrell said the company’s success is mainly attributed to repeat customers.

“We definitely like to see our businesses doing well enough that they need to expand,” said Scott Falkowski, Huber Heights interim assistant city manager. “We like to help them out wherever possible to keep growing, and when one business fails, it’s good to see another business take its place.”

Nationwide, used car sales are estimated to be 4.2 million, down 5.7 percent from July 2011 and down 3.3 percent from June 2012, according to TrueCar.com, which tracks new car pricing, trends and forecasts.
