New ‘paint-and-sip’ wine bar to open at Dayton Mall

MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County — A new entertainment destination that offers wine and beer by the glass in conjunction with hands-on painting classes is scheduled to open in mid-July in front of the Dayton Mall.

Pinot’s Palette, a franchise shop of a Houston-based “paint-and-sip” company that operates more than 30 such shops in the U.S., will open at 2826 Miamisburg-Centerville Road adjacent to First Watch and Halloween Express in a retail building in front of the Dayton Mall.

The shop will be managed by Erica Doggett of West Carrollton, who said she and her in-laws — Dale and Karen Doggett, the franchise owner-operators — researched several paint-and-sip franchise opportunities before choosing Pinot’s Palette.

A similar painting-studio-and-wine-bar business, Raise Your Brush, opened in Centerville January 2013. And another similar shop called Paint By The Glass is located at 8179 Princeton-Glendale Road in West Chester.

Erica Doggett said the paint-and-sip industry has been accelerating nationwide, and her goal is to open two more locations of Pinot’s Palette — one in Beavercreek near the Mall at Fairfield Commons and one in the Huber Heights area — within the next two years.

Pinot’s Palette will offer a destination for those interested in a “girls night out,” a date night and private events. Art instructors offer step-by-step instructions on creating a painting in a relaxed atmosphere that is suitable for those who have never painted before, Doggett said. The beverage emphasis will be on wine and beer, although cocktails also will be available, and will be offered during special theme nights, she said. Alcohol-free kids’ nights also will be offered.
