UD president wins DDC honor for second time

The Dayton Development Coalition will award University of Dayton President Daniel Curran the Maureen Patterson Regional Leader Award at its annual meeting tomorrow, marking the first time the award has been given a second time to a community leader, the coalition said.

The annual award is named for Maureen Patterson, who is known for her work with the coalition, the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and much more.

“The award honors an extraordinary leader in our community who, like Patterson, advocates for the community’s economic health and growth,” the coalition said in an announcement. “This year’s honoree has transformed one of Dayton’s most beloved institutions, and the effects of his work can be felt through our entire community.

“His passion for education and commitment to driving economic growth in the Dayton region reach far beyond the University of Dayton campus,” the coalition added. “Dr. Curran had created an unforgettable legacy in this community.”

Curran was a leader during the 2005 BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) process, and he helped bring global companies, such as Midmark Corp., GE Aviation and Emerson Climate Technologies, to a presence on the UD campus, the coalition said.

“When Fuyao evaluated our region for a historic investment, his deep understanding of our business community and international issues helped inform our approach to the negotiations and he continues to cultivate our relationship with the company,” Jeff Hoagland, coalition president and chief executive, said in a statement.

Curran first won the honor in 2006. Other past honorees include Gen. (Ret.) John M. Nowak in 2005 and Beverly Shillito in 2007.
