BJ’s Restaurant shooting for February opening

Hiring underway at brewhouse at Mall at Fairfield Commons

BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse started interviewing job applicants Monday and is shooting for a February opening of its new location in the Mall at Fairfield Commons.

Workers are still putting the finishing touches on the free-standing brewpub, and restaurant officials have started operating a “hiring center” at the restaurant during regular business hours, according to a spokeswoman for BJ’s Restaurant.

The store’s manager and other restaurant officials were at the site Sunday afternoon gearing up for the hiring center, which will interview applicants for servers, bussers and kitchen positions. The typical BJ’s restaurant opens with about 150 employees, most of the positions part-time, the BJ’s spokeswoman said. The restaurant is shooting for an early February opening, although no date has been projected yet, the BJ’s spokeswoman said.

This will be the second Dayton-area location for the Huntington Beach, California-based BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, which opened an 8,300-square-foot restaurant at Austin Landing in Miami Twp. in September 2013.

The BJ’s developments follow by less than three weeks the opening of a Chuy’s Tex-Mex restaurant nearby, and an announcement by BRAVO! Cucina Italiana restaurant that its nearby restaurant now has a tentative opening date of Jan. 28.

The three restaurants are part of a redevelopment plan by the Mall at Fairfield Commons’ owners that calls for as many as five new eateries to open in or next to the mall. The restaurants are replacing a portion of the mall that was demolished a year ago and which formerly housed department-store space.
