Holtvoigt said difficulties with the lease deal, and subsequent impact on the bank financing that he had lined up, torpedoed the sale. Holtvoigt, an owner of Holt Bros. Plumbing, Heating & Cooling in Urbana, said in March that his plans called for changing the name to Uncork’d Wine Bar & Bistro and for introducing a more extensive food menu.
Lisa Corral confirmed that the sale did not go through. The wine bar has very little inventory of full bottles of wine to sell at retail, but the tasting bar is still well-stocked and open Tuesday through Saturday evenings starting at 4 p.m., Corral said.
A wine bar has filled the space in the retail shopping center since 1999, when Cindy Hill opened the doors of Cindy’s Wine Cellar. Hill sold it to one of her employees, Jessica Paringer, and Paringer’s husband, local chef Chris Cavender, in 2005, and the wine bar became Cuvee Wine Bar & Cellar. The Corrals purchased the business in 2010 from Cavender, and kept the Cuvee name.
