Yaskawa Motoman celebrates 25th anniversary

Yaskawa Motoman, a global robotics manufacturer headquartered in Miamisburg, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month, company officials announced.

Previously known as Motoman Inc., the company was launched as a 50-50 joint venture between Hobart Brothers Co. and Yaskawa Electric America, and began operations as a stand-alone entity in August 1989.

Officials said the company started with 59 employees and was considered a niche player in North America. In 1994, Motoman Inc. became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Japan’s Yaskawa Electric Corp., a global leader in mechatronic and robots. Yaskawa Motoman now has 11 facilities in North and South America, with nearly 600 workers and more than 35,000 robots installed.

The company will hold an internal celebration with employees to recognize its 25-year anniversary. Officials said the company plans to participate in Yaskawa’s 100-year global celebration in 2015, including an open house and customer appreciation events.
