New carpet, paint, flooring embellish Vandalia 2-story

Current owners of the two-story home at 406 Timberwind Lane in Vandalia moved into it in 1996 when it was new. Their pride of ownership is obvious in the manner in which the home has been maintained and updated as needed.

“It’s a traditional style (home),” said Tim Stammen of Keller Williams Home Town Realty. “It’s in move-in condition. It’s freshly painted, and new carpet was installed within the past month or two.”

The floor plan offers nearly 2,600 square feet of living space. Stammen has listed this home for $259,900.

“Other flooring was replaced last year,” Stammen said, referring to the glistening oak hardwood flooring installed in the entry, the living room and the formal dining room.

The entry receives plenty of natural light thanks to an oval patterned glass insert in the front door, which is flanked by full-sized matching sidelights. A triple window is placed near the ceiling above a wide plant shelf. Turned spindles edge the bi-directional staircase to the upper level under a brass chandelier centered on the ceiling.

Crown moldings and double windows dressed in fabric swags enhance both the living and dining rooms.

An angled wall in the family room holds a gas fireplace with ceramic-tile facing and hearth and a wood mantel featuring dentil detailing and fluted posts. The atrium door to the deck and a matching window are shaded with custom blinds. New carpet in a neutral shade cushions the floor.

A half-wall creates a separation from the breakfast area, where a contemporary chandelier centers the ceiling. Paneled doors enclose two storage areas: a full-sized pantry and a deep, under-the-stairs storage closet.

Oak cabinets with raised-panel doors frame the kitchen work space, where backsplash areas were recently updated with miniature glass tile in rectangular shapes. Flooring was replaced with neutral 18-inch ceramic tile. The double sink sits under a wide window facing the back yard.

The center island offers bar seating on one side and storage cabinets on the other. All appliances will convey with the home, including dishwasher, refrigerator, electric range, microwave oven and trash compactor.

The washer and dryer will remain in the laundry room, which also houses the furnace, water heater and water softener behind double folding doors. Nearby is a half bath.

At the top of the staircase is a versatile 12-by-8-foot loft area, which gives access to three bedrooms and the hall bath.

Windows in the main bedroom suite are dressed with sheer curtains and fabric valances. In the adjacent private bath, the jetted tub is surrounded with ceramic tile under a rectangular window with a treetop view.

The long double vanity is topped by a full-sized framed wall mirror. Set in an alcove at the far end of the bathroom the separate step-in shower is almost hidden from view.

Neutral carpet extends into the remaining two bedrooms, both of which have double wall closets. The hall bath has a tub-and-shower combination.

“There are no rear neighbors so it’s a private back yard,” Stammen said.

The slightly raised wood deck surrounded by a railing allows relaxing outdoors in privacy, thanks to a sloping back yard that rises upward to a thick tree line at its edge. Mature bushes flank the mulched flower bed just outside the railing, and round stepping stones lead from the deck to the driveway.

The oversized two-car garage has versatile space, also.

Said Stammen, “The garage is 33 feet deep on one side – it could hold a boat or be used as a work area.”

This home’s location in Vandalia’s Timberwood community is about 3 miles from shopping, restaurants and Interstate 75.
