Woman accused in robbery, kidnapping of 85-year-old pleads guilty

She is set to be sentenced Feb. 12 in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court. She will be sentenced to prison on an agreed-upon 25 to 30½ years, the prosecutor’s office said.

“This was a negotiated plea which substantially reduces Ms. Boomershine’s exposure and guarantees she will be able to be released in the future and return to her family,” defense attorney Kyle Lennen told the Dayton Daily News in a statement.

Boomershine was charged in a case along with her co-defendant Billy Joe Farra. Farra was found guilty by a judge after a bench trial in October and sentenced to 55 to 60 years in the case.

During the trial, prosecutors said Boomershine met the victim at a casino. They said she and Farra then broke into the man’s Miamisburg home on Jan. 15, 2020, assaulted him and forced him into his car while the defendants allegedly drove to an ATM and withdrew money from his bank.

Prosecutors said the 85-year-old was forced to give up his ATM pin at gunpoint.

Prosecutors said after that, Farra put the man into his trunk and drove the vehicle deep onto Rumpke’s waste facility property on East Monument Avenue in Dayton and left him in the trunk.

The man was able to free himself by using an emergency release inside the vehicle’s trunk, prosecutors said, and the victim was found by Rumpke employees.

Throughout the trial, prosecutors presented evidence connecting Boomershine and Farra.

Additionally, Boomershine was indicted on accounts of escape and vandalism after she was caught attempting to climb into the ceiling of a holding area in the jail while she was waiting to be taken to court, according to prosecutors.

“Jail staff was able to pull her from the ceiling without injury, but the ceiling sustained significant damage,” the prosecutor’s office said.

The case against Boomershine was previously set to be heard by a jury in November, however, a court filing asking for a continuance by the defense attorney said that she was placed in Montgomery County Jail quarantine due to COVID-19 concerns.
