Like Joel McHale on “The Soup” on E! and Danielle Fishel on the Style network’s “The Dish,” comedian Daniel Tosh has a pretty sweet television gig. That is, if you can stomach heavy exposure to some of the more toxic moments in modern pop culture.

Like McHale and Fishel, Tosh hosts a television series where he stands in front of a green screen for much of the program cracking jokes over already-entertaining video clips. While the other shows survive on a diet of snippets from television programs, “Tosh.0” uses Web footage.

Another differentiating factor is the sarcastic comedian’s regular segment Web Redemption, where some of the everyday people who became viral video stars due to embarrassing situations get a chance to correct their video-taped mistakes.

Tosh already was playing to sold-out crowds before his hugely popular show debuted last summer. Now fans must plan well in advance to get tickets to his shows, as Daytonians discovered when his current run at The Funny Bone Comedy Club on Friday and Saturday, May 14 and 15, sold out more than a month in advance.

Born: Boppard, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, in May 29, 1975.

Childhood: Tosh, one of four kids, grew up in Florida with his mother and preacher father.

Current home: Hermosa Beach, Calif.

College: Graduated from the University of Central Florida with a business and marketing degree.

Western migration: Tosh, who started comedy while in college, relocated to California in the late 1990s.

Early show: “Comedy Central Presents Daniel,” his first stand-up special, premiered in 2002.

Show time: The comedian’s series “Tosh.0” debuted on Comedy Central in June 2009. It recently was renewed for a third season, which begins in January.

Next: New episodes of “Tosh.0,” which air on Comedy Central on Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m., begin June 2.

Live: The comedian tapes his next one-hour Comedy Central special at Yerba Buena Center Theatre in San Francisco on June 12.
