The new location seats 200 guests and features an expanded menu with a variety of appetizers, salads, house specials, sandwiches, wraps, speciality combos and children’s meals.
But Lucky Dog’s claim to fame is its “Big Dog” wings, according to co-owner James McAlpin.
“They’re actually grilled instead of deep fried,” McAlpin said. “We cook them on our 600-degree charcoal grill and they have a completely different flavor. We convert 99 percent of the customers to our wings versus anywhere else.”
The family-friendly restaurant also offers build-your-own-burger and build-your-own-chicken-sandwich specials every day, plus nine different versions of authentic Philly steaks and Philly chickens.
A private party area seats about 30. Eight 42-inch flat panel televisions in the dining room and bar provide ample viewing opportunities. Patrons can get lucky via Keno through the Ohio Lottery or have fun in a game room with two pool tables, Pop-A-Shot, darts, race car driving and shooting games.
The restaurant offers a unique feature that pays tribute to its canine-inspired name — a pet-friendly patio open seven days a week.
Corie Bland of Liberty Twp. said she started patronizing Lucky Dog at its former location and continues to at its new location, despite the longer drive, because of the delicious food and outgoing service.
“I know it’s going to sound corny but ... they really make you feel like you’re at home,” she said. “They know your name. They know what you like.”
Creating that kind of a feeling is why the restaurant opened in first place, according to co-owner Diane Sutton.
“We wanted our place to be a place that we would go to, a place that we would feel comfortable in as a customer, not just as the owners,” Sutton said. “Moving to Mason, we’ve come to be known as a place to bring your family. Any time you walk in, there are families here.”
Kids eat free Tuesday, and $4.99 lunch specials are available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
