John Legend is getting ready to return to the Grammy stage.
For the 2016 awards ceremony, Springfield’s very own “Legend” will team up with Demi Lovato, Luke Bryan, Tyrese and Meghan Trainor to celebrate four-time Grammy winner Lionel Richie.
In honor of this music moment, we dug through our archives and found our coverage from the very first time Legend went to the Grammy’s back in 2006, and the Springfield News-Sun went with him!
Here’s a look back at that incredible experience 10 years ago:
THE BIG WIN
On Feb. 8, 2006, John Legend won three Grammy awards. He had a leading eight nominations that night:
- Best New Artist
- Male R&B Vocal Performance for "Ordinary People"
- R&B Album for "Get Lifted"
Since that night, John Legend has gone on to win 24 awards, including an Oscar in 2015 for his work on "Glory" from "Selma" in collaboration with rapper Common.
