For the third time in as many years, the quiet village of Clifton will celebrate Labor Day weekend with sounds and sights.

The Clifton Gorge Music and Arts Festival offers 13 acts, a host of art, food and family fun 4-11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30. There is no cost to attend.

What used to be Old Clifton Days has evolved into the new event, said to Sue Chasnov, festival committee spokeswoman.

“We’re trying to focus on music with a lot of acts, many of which have played at our opera house,” she said.

The live entertainment includes a combination of returning and new acts with a lot of local flavor.

Several musical genres including bluegrass, jazz, 1950s-’60s rock, folk and others will be represented, as well as fire dancing and ballet performances.

Seating will be provided for the performances, Chasnov said.

Pottery, painting, including an artist painting on sight, weavers and even alpaca-based goods will be available.

Unusual art will include a chain-saw carver doing demonstrations and a large teepee with handmade crafts.

Adults can browse an open street fair and kids can enjoy an activity area. Greene County Parks will bring its mini nature center.

A special announcement of an important upcoming event in 2015 will be announced at 6 p.m. Friday in front of the old school building.

Chasnov mentioned the festival has been reduced from three days to two this year; there are no activities on Sunday. For a schedule of acts and activities, go to www.villageofclifton.com.

“Come out and enjoy our beautiful scenery, music, shopping and refreshments,” Chasnov said.
