After taking several steps up the ladder to country music recognition a year ago, the Kate Hasting Band continues its ascent in 2016.
While navigating between Nashville, Los Angeles and other parts of the country, Springfield native Kate Hasting knows her community will welcome her and bandmates Josh Beale and Cam Smith back.
It will again when the Kate Hasting Band rounds out the 24th annual Concert in the Park Series in New Carlisle at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 10, at Smith Park.
The concert is presented by the New Carlisle Chautauqua Arts Council and admission is free.
“I always like coming home,” said Hasting, who grew up on a farm outside of New Carlisle and graduated from Northwestern High School. “The community has always given so much support for me and for local music and this gives us a chance to give back to the community.”
It has been a busy summer as the band again successfully participated in the CMA Fest in Nashville, performing and meeting fans in June.
“It’s always the best week of the year,” said guitarist Beale.
Following that, the band was in Los Angeles recording material for a new EP scheduled for release this fall.
Hasting is glad to be back for a while after battling bronchitis. But the group still managed to play live at Clark County’s annual fireworks show on July 1.
“It’s become kind of our new hometown and home away from home,” Beale said of Springfield, along with drummer Smith who agreed.
Fans at the New Carlisle show will hear some of the new songs, which Hasting and Beale describe as a little faster. A lot of past tunes had a nostalgic feel, and these have more of a party feel.
“We’re still staying true to who we are,” Beale said about the new tunes.
Anybody who can’t make the New Carlisle show will have other chances to see the Kate Hasting Band live. They’ll perform at several places in Ohio in July and August.
The band is eyeing other tour dates this fall. It’s all part of their step-by-step plan for success.
“It’s a long road, but we’re in it for the long haul. It’s like a job or school where you keep working your way up and we like how we’re getting there,” Hasting said.
