Summer is nearly upon us, and that means it’s time to start thinking about summer reading programs.

Dayton Metro Library’s summer theme is “Everyone’s a Hero,” with the summer reading program running through Aug. 1 and featuring activities, literature, hands-on learning and more for all ages. A wide variety of rewards and prizes are part of the summer reading fun for these age groups:

• “Little Sidekicks” is designed especially for babies and toddlers to help them develop early language and literacy skills.

• “Every Hero Has a Story,” for children in preschool through grade 6, features activities and crafts.

• “Unmask” motivates teens in grades 7-12 to read and experience the summer in new ways.

• “Escape the Ordinary” for adults age 18 and up encourages adults to read a library book, watch a library movie, listen to a library book, or attend a library program.

Visit any of the Dayton Metro Library branches or bookmobile, or online at www.daytonmetrolibrary.org/summer, to learn more about the summer reading programs, prizes and schedules of activities.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, Aug. 8, 1-4 p.m., for the library’s celebration of the conclusion of the summer reading program at Cooper Park in downtown Dayton behind the Main Library. There will be music, entertainment, interactive games and contests, all free for the whole family.
