How to go
What: "The Little Mermaid"
When: 8 to 11 p.m. today, Aug. 13
Where: Fairfield Aquatic Center, 2605 Augusta Blvd.
Cost: $4.
FAIRFIELD — Moviegoers will find its better down where it’s wetter from 8 to 11 tonight, Aug. 13, at the Fairfield Aquatic Center, even if they can’t watch the movie under the sea.
That’s because the center is showing its latest “Dive-In Movie,” in which attendees can watch the film while they are in the center’s pool. The movie being shown is “The Little Mermaid,” the 1989 film that sparked the Disney animation renaissance.
And no, the selection of the title is not a coincidence, said Lucinda Lewellyn, the recreation manager for the city’s parks and recreation department.
“We always try to make them water-themed,” she said. Previous movies shown in the 3-year-old event are Pixar’s “Finding Nemo” and DreamWorks’ “Shark Tale.”
People can watch from the deep end and the zero-depth entrance of the water.
They don’t have to get wet if they don’t want to — they can also watch from the pool deck, Williams said.
For the only time this season, people may bring in their floats, inner tubes or air mattresses. The movie will begin at dusk and all play features and the slide will be turned off. Popcorn, candy and other concessions will be available, so the “floor” will be wet but not sticky.
Anywhere from 200 to 400 people have attended the event; capacity is limited, Williams said. Children 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. The admission fee is $4, but is free to season pass holders.
