Local band Chapter 3 to open for Vanilla Ice at Mcguffy’s

FAIRBORN — Local band Chapter 3 will open for Vanilla Ice at McGuffy’s House of Rock on Oct. 16.

Formed a year ago, Chapter 3 members include Anthony Houck on guitar and vocals, Arik Houck on bass, and Marques McConnell on drums. The band recently added a fourth member, Michael Fisher, who will fill in on bass during a few songs.

Chapter 3 got their start playing at Gilbert’s Party Barn in September of 2009. Since then, the band has played numerous shows throughout the Dayton area including performances at One Eyed Jacks, W.O. Wrights, Bojangles, Canal Street Tavern and McGuffy’s.

“Our best shows are the people who come out and bring their friends,” McConnell said. “People will come out when they see the passion you put into playing, and every band member has to be committed. Hard work pays off.”

Chapter 3 compares their sound to today’s new rock music genre. The band recently opened up for the ’90s rock band Seven Mary Three.

“We are excited to be opening up for Vanilla Ice,” McConnell said. “It is nice to have the opportunity to open up for a well-known musical figure.”

Vanilla Ice, also known as Robert Van Winkle, is known for his hit song “Ice Ice Baby,” which was the first hip hop single to top the charts in 1990. Chapter 3 has several other shows coming up, including a show at Captain’s Point at Indian Lake, and a performance at W.O. Wrights later this month.
