Well, that didn't take long.

A new diner is gearing up to open in the former site of 5th Street Wine and Deli and it will be open early and late.

Oregon District resident Guy Fragmin says 416 Diner will offer "comfort food with great service in the heart of the Oregon District."

“Our slogan line is ‘are you hungry?,’” Fragmin said of his planned breakfast, lunch and late-night diner.

The restaurant will be located at 416 E. Fifth St. in Dayton’s Oregon District, a building Fragmin purchased in 2005.

5th Street Wine and Deli left the building on Tuesday and is transforming to Canal Street Arcade and Deli.

The Deli is expected to open by early March in the former Canal Street Tavern space at 308 E. First St.

Fragmin put up signs for 416 Diner soon after the deli left.

"I've been planning this since I was a teenager," he said. "I am so excited. I love it."

A West Virginia native, Fragmin said he bought the building as a retirement investment.

After 30 years of work in marketing and advertising,  Fragmin is now retired. He lives above his business.

416 Diner will specialize in comfort food, breakfast items and lunch sandwiches. He also plans to sell West Virginia-style Pepperoni rolls.

“Anyone who has been east of here will know what a pepperoni roll is,” he said. “I am really excited to share it with Dayton.”

An area resident since 1992, Fragmin said he wants to support the community and add to the Oregon District.

“I noticed a need for early breakfast, and I noticed the need for late night food,” he said.

The 1,400 square foot diner will have 25 to 30 tables and employee 15 to 20 people.

Fragmin said he is getting key people in place now, and hopes to open in April or May. The space is being remodeled.

Breakfast will be served daily, and the late-night menu will be sold Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
