Area twins set the challenge on ‘Dinner Impossible’

CENTERVILLE — Don’t assume something’s wrong with your television set when you watch “Dinner Impossible” on the Food Network on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 14.

Chef Robert Irvine will be seeing double and so will viewers, but the problem is not in your set.

The episode, entitled “Double Trouble,” was filmed last August at Twins Days in Twinsburg, Ohio, and features local twins Steve and Jeff Nagel.

Steve is from Centerville; Jeff is from Dayton. The fact that Jeff is a chef at Kettering Medical Center made the Nagels the perfect choice when it came to picking a pair to explain the TV show’s mission to its famous host.

The Nagels, 42, have been coming to the twins festival for the past 22 years. They always come dressed identically and they always earn a medal in the “Most Look-Alike Contest.” Three thousand sets of twins typically attend.

“They give the chef a mission every episode to create dinner for hundreds of people, and he has a limited amount of time to create the meal,” Steve Nagel said.

“In this case, he had eight hours to create a meal for 250 twins — all dressed alike.”

In keeping with the twins theme, there was an added challenge. For every dish chef Robert created, he had to make its “ twin” using identical key ingredients from the first dish to create a totally different second dish.

“So, for example,” said Steve Nagel, “he used chicken, ham and Swiss cheese to create both a salad and Chicken cordon bleu. The food was amazing!”

The Nagels love being twins.

“Being a twin,” said Steve Nagel, “means always having your best friend with you.”

“Dinner Impossible, Double Trouble,” will air at 4 p.m. Saturday Nov. 14, on the Food Network.
