Garry Trudeau is saying goodbye to his daily “Doonesbury” comic for a while to spend more time working on scripts for his other love: television. Amazon Studios has picked up a second season of “Alpha House,” Trudeau’s politically satiric program starring John Goodman. He will continue to draw fresh cartoons for Sunday readers but, beginning Monday, you will see a series of vintage “Doonesbury” strips for an open-ended run.
The “Doonesbury Flashback” daily cartoons (Monday through Saturday) will take readers back several decades to the early years of the comic. Starting in the 1970s, we’ll revisit the stories that put “Doonesbury” on the cover of Time magazine and made it the first comic strip to win a Pulitzer Prize for cartooning.
