FAIRFIELD — A typical night at the bar probably does not entail sitting down at a table with a big group of people and passing around a single glass of beer in order to ensure that everyone gets a taste.

However, Aaron Spoores, a sales representative from Cavalier Distributing, Ohio’s largest craft beer distributor, said that this is what people can expect to see at the Stone Brewing Company’s Tasting at Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield on Friday.

Although there will certainly be enough beer to go around, Spoores said that beer lovers tend to enjoy the experience of sharing the wide array of beers that these events have to offer.

During the event, Greg Koch, the owner of Stone Brewing Company, will speak in detail about the various craft beers that the company produces.

“He’s one of the most well-respected craft brewers in the country,” said Ed Vinson, the beer and wine operations manager at Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield.

The event, which is expected to draw a crowd of about 500 people, will provide guests with the opportunity to taste 10 different beers. These will include Pale Ale, Levitation Ale, Cail-Belgique IPA, Old Guardian Belgo, Arrogant Bastard Ale, Lucky Bastard Ale, Vertical Epic Ale (also known as the Vertical Epic Ale, 10-10-10), Old Guardian, Double Dry Hopped IPA, and Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale.

Vinson said that Jungle Jim’s carries about a dozen different beers from the Stone Brewing Company.

“Its very flavorful beer,” Vinson said.” A lot of people just absolutely love hoppy beers. “

During the event, Koch will talk about each of the ten beers.

“He will speak about all the technical things that a lot beer lovers love to hear,” Vinson said.

“I just think the complexity of each beer will bring something different to the table,” Spoores said.

Vertical Epic, a limited-release that comes out once a year, is a speciality beer that people collect, Vinson said.

“We will have a complete set of Vertical Epics from 2003-2010,” Vinson said. “We will auction those all off for charity.”

All the proceeds from the auction will go to the One Way Farm.

The collection will include a total of eight 22-ounce bottles (one from each year), Spoores said. Each of the bottles will be signed by Koch.

“They are all different Belgian-style beers,” Spoores said. “They are the rarest beers in the world.”

Spoores said that they fully expect for those beers to go for anything between $400 and $1,000.

Cheese and bread will be provided during the event. Reservations can be made by calling (513) 674-6000.
