Dayton celebrates Navy Week

The U.S. Navy takes center stage June 13 through the 19 as Dayton celebrates Navy Week.

Started in 2005, Navy Weeks were designed to help Americans in areas without significant Navy presence be more aware of their efforts with a number of special events. There are 181 Navy Weeks being held in nearly 70 cities throughout the year.

Dayton’s will kick off Monday with a performance by the Navy Band at MetroParks Riverscape Pavilion at 6 pm in addition to other performances throughout the area all week.

The University of Dayton will celebrate Navy Day on Tuesday (9 am to noon) with the Navy Band Northeast’s Rock Band along with an interactive STEM experience.

The Dayton Dragons will host Navy Night at Fifth Third Field before Wednesday night’s game against South Bend.

Thursday night at Big Brothers Big Sisters at MetroPark Plaza will also be a Navy Night beginning at 6, with performances from the Navy Band Northeast’s Rock Band as well as STEM presentations.

The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery will host an interactive STEM experience courtesy of the Navy all day Friday to close out the week.
