“This show is presented as a package by our guest artists with the help of their skillful arrangers,” said Dayton Philharmonic’s associate conductor, Patrick Reynolds. “It’s always a treat for me to work with the DPO and the amazing guests artists on our Pops series. The concerts are always a great time, and there’s something very special about combining the extraordinary talent of our orchestra with visiting popular artists. We have as much fun as the audience.

“What strikes me as I study for these concerts is how naturally this music fits in a symphonic setting,” Reynolds said. “Lots of the songs already had a bit of a symphonic touch in their original form. I definitely get the sense we’re going to make a great team.”
For “Women of Song,” the team includes Reynolds, the orchestra and visiting artists pianist Joe Spraker and singers Christine La Fond, Naomi Mauro and Vivian Ross.
“I’ve worked with the wonderful Christine La Fond several times over the years,” Reynolds said. “She’s based out of La Vegas. I’m looking forward to working with Vivian Ross and Naomi Mauro for the first time. I’ve heard clips of their performances and they’re fabulous.”

The repertoire for “Women of Song” includes material from the 1960s to the present by iconic acts such as Tina Turner, Linda Ronstadt, Madonna, Maria Carey and Pink. A sampling of the songs includes Aretha Franklin’s “Think,” Dusty Springfield’s “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me,” Barbara Streisand’s “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” Sia’s “Chandelier” and Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.”
“It’s a night of ‘diverse songs, from classics to contemporary hits,’ chosen from music performed and made famous over the years by women,” Reynolds said. “That’s a really rich repertoire. With a theme like that, the concert could probably keep going all night.
“What makes this concert so appealing is that it’s packed with favorite hit after hit after hit,” Reynolds added. “The weather’s getting really nice outside — perfect time for a feel-good evening at the Schuster Center.”
