The 225-seat listening room at 308 E. First St. (Mick Montgomery Way) opened in late 1981 and closed after one final show Nov. 30, 2013.

Mick Montgomery, Canal Street's former owner and founder, announced that he will host The Musician's Co-Op with Mick Montgomery the first Friday of each month at Hannah's, 121 N. Ludlow St. in downtown Dayton, starting at 9 p.m. on Feb. 2, 2018.
A post on Montgomery’s Facebook page reads:
Once a month (First Fridays) we will provide a stage and an opportunity for Dayton's plethora of fine singer-songwriters to show their art and talent. It's of course, an opportunity as well, for the rest of us to support and take pride in our struggling arts/music scene. I started hosting the Musician's Co-op at a place called Sam's Bar and Grill in 1974 or 5. It was our backbone in the early Canal Street Tavern days. I have met so many wonderful and talented songwriters over the years at the Co-op and frankly it's time for us all to meet some more.
Yellow Cab Tavern, located at 700 E 4th St. in downtown Dayton, will host Canal Street Stories: A Celebration and Reunion from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Saturday Jan. 6, 2017.
The event will include curated stories presented on Yellow Cab’s main stage.

Admission is free, but donations will be collected to help Montgomery published a planned book, according to the event’s Facebook page says.
Canal Public House took over the former Canal Street space when the club closed. That business lost its licence in March of 2016.
