Wayback Burgers to host Triple Triple eating contest Sunday

The Wayback Burgers restaurant inside the Mall at Fairfield Commons will host a "Triple Triple" eating challenge on Sunday, Sept. 18, to help celebrate National Cheeseburger Day.

It's the 9th annual contest for the Connecticut-based burger chain that opened its first Dayton-area location in May inside the Beavercreek mall.

A manager at the Beavercreek location confirmed this morning his store is among the “participating restaurants” in the challenge, in which guests are challenged to compete against the clock to take down Wayback Burgers’ nine-patty burger, complete with nine slices of American cheese and topped with lettuce and tomato.

Finishing off the Triple Triple in the fastest time will earn one diner a chance to collect a $3,330 grand prize. Guests can register in advance at www.tripletriplechallenge.com to sign an eligibility waiver before taking on the task.

A Wayback Burgers team member will serve as official timekeeper to see how long it takes to clean the plate, according to a Wayback release. Participants will receive a free Wayback Burgers t-shirt for competing, while supplies last.

“Guests are encouraged to bring their stretchy pants,” the release said.

“Our nine-patty burger has become an icon synonymous with the Wayback Burgers brand, and National Cheeseburger Day is the perfect day to honor our love of burgers, with a side of friendly competition,” John Eucalitto, president of Wayback Burgers, said in the release. “The competition can be fierce, as last year’s winner and defending chompion, Molly Schuyler, devoured the burger in just over 40 seconds! We look forward to seeing if anyone can dethrone her record.”

The Cheshire, Connecticut-based Wayback Burgers began in 1991 as Jake’s Hamburgers in Newark, Delaware. In 2010, Jake’s Hamburgers changed its name to Jake’s Wayback Burgers. The franchise-based chain operates more than 100 restaurants nationwide.
