Adult art class dabbles in Seurat-style pointillism

Each artist in the class at Hithergreen painted a small square.

Twenty-four Hithergreen Center art students each took a square and painted it. Then it all melded together in one 4- by 5-foot pointillism-style painting. It’s a pretty fair copy of “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” by French post-impressionist artist Georges Seurat.

The work was painted by Barb Stork’s students in her Monday morning Painting and More class at the Hithergreen Center in Washington Twp. The collaborative work is currently hanging in the office of Rick Lewis, who has been Hithergreen’s education and recreation coordinator for the past five years.

“I think the painting is awesome,” Lewis said. “They’re very talented folks. Barb is an instructor that uses our facility to its full potential. They go out in the garden, do sketches around the building.”

This class is offered through Sinclair Community College’s Lifelong Learning Program. For details, call (937) 435-2415.
