** ORIGINAL STORY (Published Feb. 14, 2017): Local student had a Valentine’s Day message for each and every one of her classmates
Love was in the air and on every single locker at one Dayton-area high school this morning, thanks to a girl with kindness in her heart.
Troy High School Principal Katherine Weaver said a student who wishes to remain anonymous left origami hearts reading “You are loved” on each of the school’s roughly 1,300 lockers Monday night.
“It was so cool to see the students walking the building and see the hearts on the lockers,” Weaver said. “(The anonymous student) wanted everyone to be a part of today.”
Weaver learned of the random act of kindness when she saw the girl and others attaching the hearts to lockers Monday night. The girl had help attaching the hearts, but folded each piece of cardstock herself, Weaver said.
The act took planning.
“(She’s) been folding them since September,” the principal said. “There was one for everybody... She counted all of the lockers. It was a surprise for everyone.”
Weaver said the school had an extremely positive vibe today thanks to the girl’s unusual act.
Many students wore the hearts or carried them around.
Several came to the school’s office to figure out where where their lockers were located so they could get their heart, as many students don’t use their school lockers.
Weaver said it is rare for a student to take on such a project.
The girl’s actions showed the what young people are capable of, she said.
“She’s a great kid,” Weaver said. “We are really proud of our kids.”
