Celebrities baring it all to flesh out public image

With tonight’s Academy of Country Music awards set in Las Vegas, there’s sure to be plenty of skin showing up on the Sin City red carpet.

For some reason, “nekkedness” has been a newsworthy topic of late.

For example, I just got my latest Allure magazine (the annual “nude” issue), and Catherine Zeta-Jones, singer Colbie Caillat and American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi are just some of the women baring it all, with strategically placed hair and limbs to be tasteful.

I know, there’s some major retouching involved, but seeing these Hollywood chicas parading around in their birthday suits doesn’t do much for the ol’ ego.

DioGuardi (not a favorite of mine anyway) says, “this shoot was less about beauty than about taking a risk and showing people a side of me they never have seen.” If you ask me, I saw enough during last year’s Idol finale in the infamous swimsuit “flash-off” with Bikini Girl. But to give the woman some green-eyed props, she did admit to some body image issues and confidence problems in her past. Right on, sister.

Then there’s Britney Spears, back in the headlines with a recent ad campaign for Candies. Brit released her “untouched” pictures, alongside the enhanced ones. Britney joins the likes of Jessica Simpson, who appeared on this month’s Marie Claire magazine without makeup.

A Daily Mail reporter said of Britney: “It’s refreshing to see one of the world’s most famous pop stars allowing all of her imperfections to be highlighted.” Honestly, there’s not too much difference between the originals and retouched photos for either Brit or Jess.

Isn’t it funny when women take it all off, it’s all scrutiny, but when it’s a guy, it’s appreciation?

Country hunk singer/actor Tim McGraw was recently asked by CMT if he would ever consider doing a nude scene. “The easy answer would be no,” he says. “To me, it’s not really about that; it’s about what is the movie about and what tells the story in the best way. It wouldn’t be something I’d go out looking for, but if I fall in love with a piece of art where that was necessary, I’d certainly think long and hard about it.”

Hey Tim, I hear they may be doing a remake of “American Gigolo.”
