DIY for cheap: vacation savings jar

With the summer comes great summer vacations. However, if that trip to Paris or that Caribbean getaway isn’t in the cards for this summer, you can always start planning for next year. As someone who loves to save, this quick and easy savings jar is a great way to remind yourself what it is you are saving for.

Supplies needed

Items I purchased:

• Glass jar — $1.99 at Goodwill

• Plastic palm tree — $1.99 at Michaels Arts and Crafts

• Glitter paint — $2.49 at Michaels Arts and Crafts

• Pearl paint — $2.49 at Michaels Arts and Crafts

Items I already had:

• Paint brush

• E6000 Industrial Strength Adhesive

• Mod Podge

Directions

1. Paint the lid of your jar with the pearl paint, making sure to evenly coat the top and sides. Add a second coat once completely dry.

2. Use this same paint and paint the entire plastic palm tree. Let dry completely.

3. Once the pearl paint is dry, apply a coat of the glitter paint over the entire lid and plastic palm tree. Let dry completely.

4. Apply a coat of Mod Podge over the tree and lid. Let dry.

5. Using your adhesive, glue the palm trees to the center of the lid.

6. Once dry, you are ready to start saving up your money for that island getaway.
