Fast food chains to serve bourbon-flavored burger

Customers at Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. can now add a taste of liquor to their fast-food experience.

CKE Restaurants, owner of the two chains, announced this week that it will begin serving the Jim Beam Bourbon Burger, which features a “rich and tangy sauce” flavored by the bourbon as well as onion straws, bacon, pepper-Jack cheese, lettuce and tomato. Alone, the burger will cost $3.59, but prices vary by location, the company said.

Calling it a “mature burger for mature tastes,” the company touted the introduction as a first in the fast-food industry.

“Higher-end restaurants have long served menu items flavored with branded spirits but, until now, they had yet to find their way onto fast food menus and we considered it our mission to change that,” Brad Haley, chief marketing officer for Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s, said in a news release announcing the new burger.

The chains are rolling out the burgers with a commercial featuring supermodel Heidi Klum that will begin airing March 25.
