Local Cub Scout wants to send an avalanche of Christmas love to sick children in Dayton

A local Cub Scout is trying to outdo himself, and it won’t be easy.

Collin Schaefer sought to bring in 200 handmade Christmas cards for children being treated at Dayton Children's Hospital and collected 800 instead.

This year, he is trying to collect 1,000.

“If you participated last year, thank you,”  the New Carlisle 7-year-old says in a video being circulated by his mother on Facebook.

“He just wants to put smiles on the faces of the kids at the hospital,” Cathi Schaefer said. “He has a heart for other people.”

Cards will be delivered to the hospital next week.

Cards can be mailed to:

Collin’s project is the off-shoot of a toy drive by Cub Scout Pack 338. He is a member of the pack.

Cathi said Collin had ear surgery at Columbus’ Nationwide Children’s Hospital last April.

“He got to see other kids that were not coming home like he did,” she said.

Thus far Collin has collected 400 cards. One came from Alaska. Some of the others were donated by Joy Nursery School in Springfield. The school surprised Collin with a gift card for toys.
