Other agencies offer help to victims of domestic violence

Recent articles have questioned the existence of a domestic violence shelter operated by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. At this time we would like to remind the Dayton community about the domestic violence services offered by both Artemis Center and the YWCA Dayton.

Our respective agencies collaborate on a seven-day-a-week, 24-hour Domestic Violence Hotline, 937.222.7233 (222-SAFE) that can be reached by anyone in an abusive situation. Calls are free and confidential. Both agencies can also provide transportation to safe places.

The YWCA Dayton operates the only domestic violence shelter in both Montgomery and Preble counties, offering a safe haven for women and children in need of emergency housing due to a violent situation.

Artemis Center provides additional services such as educational and support groups for women and children, court assistance and other types of direct assistance, such as funds for changing locks.

Both of our organizations serve women and children from north, south, east and west of the center city. The current economy often intensifies family violence. This letter is a reminder that services for personal safety are available to those in need, no matter where they live.
