I implore Kasich to study this proposal more closely. If Kasich succeeds, not just the train, but Ohio, will be dead.
Re-establishing passenger rail service is critical to our state’s economy and overall long-term growth. Countless studies show that passenger rail service creates jobs and businesses, increases property values close to stations, reduces pollution, and reduces our dependency on fossil fuels. Not to mention that it is more cost-efficient than adding miles to our highways.
The so-called 3C corridor is the most heavily populated corridor in America that is totally devoid of passenger rail service. ODOT and Amtrak recently announced that 14 percent more Ohioans rode passenger trains over the past year.
Surely we can afford to spend less then one half of one percent of our total state transportation budget to support this goal.
If we fail to make this initial investment for our future, the rest of the country and the industrialized world are going to pass us by. It will be Ohio that has missed the last train.
