Why is idea of gay Jesus offensive?

Re the letter “Play depicting gay Jesus ‘despicable’,” Nov. 24: Thank goodness there is finally a religious story from a gay point of view. Gay people are always forced to watch and listen to everything from a heterosexual point of view. If you are offended and don’t like it, then don’t go see it. Better yet, try putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and seeing things from another perspective.

Congratulations to the Dayton Playhouse for presenting this play. There are thousands of gay people living in the region who deserve to have a story that speaks directly to them.

Furthermore, there is nothing insulting about being gay, so I’m not sure how it would be offensive if Jesus was or had been.

Openly homophobic articles and letters to the editor just prove how far we still have to go as a society in combating homophobia.
