The plan was to get some seat time at Winchester Speedway’s intimidating high-banked, half-mile asphalt oval.
Instead, South Carolina’s Kyle Benjamin just put fellow drivers on the hot seat.
At age 14, Benjamin became the youngest to visit victory lane at historic Winchester, winning the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour last Sunday. It was also his first appearance at the track.
“This is just amazing,” Benjamin said. “I never expected to win in my first race here, especially at this place. This JEGS/CRA series is really strong from top to bottom. I wish there was a tour like this down south.”
Benjamin, whose plan going into the race was to get some track experience for the prestigious Winchester 400 in October, took the lead from series champion Erik Jones and led the rest of the way.
“You have to run right up against the wall and the banks here are so big,” Benjamin said. “When you look at it, it’s like looking at Darlington and you’re going so fast. This has got to be one of my favorite wins. It’s just a cool track to race.”
Eldora starting Booster Wall: Tiles are available for purchase on Eldora’s Booster Wall, which will be unveiled Sept. 2.
The wall, to be located on the north end of the main grandstand, will hold 4-by-8 and 8-by-8 tiles engraved with messages from the racing community. To be included in the wall’s debut, tiles need to be ordered no later than July 15.

Reitenour in action: Miamisburg native Megan Reitenour runs a 50-lap feature at M-40 Speedway in Jones, Mich., tonight, her first appearance at that track.
Reitenour will drive the No. 92 Logistics by Bontrager Outlaw Super Late Model on the 3/8th-mile D-shaped track.
M-40 Speedway is located northeast of South Bend, Ind., about four hours from Dayton.
Limaland hosts Dillon: Ty Dillon, currently fourth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points, will race a modified at Limaland Motorsports Park tonight. Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 6:30.
Dillon is the grandson of legendary car owner Richard Childress.
