Springfield’s legendary John Legend is now PEOPLE’s “Sexiest Man Alive.”

After graduating from Springfield North High School at only 16 years old, Legend went on to become one of the most celebrated artists of his time. Now age 40, Legend has proven to live up to his name, becoming one of only a handful of stars to reach EGOT status, earning an Emmy, 10 Grammys, an Oscar, and a Tony award.

Despite all of this success, though, Legend has managed to remain humble. When he first learned that he would be crowned PEOPLE’s “Sexiest Man Alive,” the singer seemed shocked.

“I was excited, but I was a little scared at the same time because it’s a lot of pressure,” Legend told PEOPLE Magazine. “Everyone’s going to be picking me apart to see if I’m sexy enough to hold this title. I’m [also] following Idris Elba, which is not fair and is not nice to me!”
