What the business does
“Troy Luxor is a fitness and casual apparel clothing company,” Milliner said. “We have designs for runners, people who work out and for people interested in fitness in general.”
Milliner’s store offers some unique apparel items along with more traditional fitness brands in his store, and almost everything can be customized with logos. “Troy Luxor represents power, strength and victory,” he said. “The Troy Luxor logo, which is a figure with its arms up, also represents two powerful cities in both Greece and Egypt.”
Milliner said he is trying to meet the needs of people in the fitness arena by providing a new concept — customized apparel that is a bit unique. Troy Luxor offers mix and match workout wear, business casual and casual wear in the latest styles and colors. Milliner is devoted to working with every customer to find perfect workout or casual apparel for each individual.
How the business started
Milliner said his brand signifies empowerment for change. “It was about a six-month process getting it up and going, but I knew I wanted to find a location in Troy,” he said. “I’ve done so many things in my past and really feel I have had the entrepreneurial spirit since I was a small boy.”
Milliner’s other ventures have included developing and selling his own perfume line and owning a hair salon. “I couldn’t understand why I had this drive to just keep starting new businesses,” he said. “And then I read the book ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ by Robert Kiyosaki and it changed my life. It was then I understood what it means to be an entrepreneur.”
Milliner said he believes the passion to keep moving forward with new businesses is deep inside him and when he has an idea, he acts on it. “I was always thinking about buying and selling things when I was a boy,” he said. “I guess I knew the gift was there but I wasn’t sure how to channel it.”
How the business has grown
Milliner refuses to sell anything with his name attached unless it is top quality merchandise. “I work hard to get our name out in the community,” he said. “We participate in local 5k races and give back to the community because I believe in doing that.”
Troy Luxor donates a portion of his proceeds to The Lincoln Community Center in Troy and also to his church in Piqua. “I believe in myself and what I’m trying to accomplish,” he said. “I’m working to take the store to the next level.”
The vision of the business is to be a game changer in the community, and, according to Milliner, “to empower young people to pursue their dreams and to motivate them to believe that they can be leaders in their future.” As the business has grown, Milliner is proud to support local youth in this effort.
Future Plans
“I believe in growth and expansion,” Milliner said. “We are adding more racks of customized apparel and thinking about adding popular apparel brands, like Nike and Under Armor. I also want to add a line of running shoes.”
To help with this effort, Milliner also offers excellent customer service, promising to find anything a customer requests if it isn’t carried in his store. “My goal is to add employees and be more active in Troy and the surrounding areas,” he said.
Milliner was born in Jamaica but moved to Troy when he was six. His life today is centered on church, business and family. He is married and has two daughters. “I’m blessed in my life and look forward to greater things to come,” he said.
