Moeller Brew Barn, which has locations in Troy and Maria Stein, hopes to open the new brewery, kitchen and tap room at 424 E. First St. in spring 2022, around the time the Dayton Dragons’ hosts its first home game of the season.
“Moeller Brew Barn isn’t just a restaurant, it’s an experience, a destination - and we’re in great company being located next to the new AC Hotel and across the street from the Dayton Dragons,” said Anthony Scott, who co-owns the business with Nick Moeller. “We look forward to joining the community and adding to the evolving streetscape here.”
The brew barn will occupy space in the first floor of the new Madison on First building, which is a mixed-use development offering 11,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and 3,900 square feet of patio/plaza space.
The building, formerly part of the Mendelson’s liquidation complex, is directly south of the ballpark. Brackett Builders Inc. plans to move into the building as well.
Moeller’s space will have exposed beams, brick, high ceilings and raw material originally found in the space, a release states.
Moeller Brew Barn also will have a new addition next to the existing Mendelson’s building featuring a mezzanine, two bars and outdoor patio seating.
Moeller Beer Barn started in Maria Stein in Mercer County in 2015.
The company opened a second location in Troy in 2019.
The new business will bring about 40 jobs to downtown and will give Moeller Brew Barn a presence near the Dayton Dragons.
Moeller recently became an official partner of the team.
The new beer barn plans to have more than two dozen beers on tap, including some new types that are brewed on site.
The new kitchen will offer food such neapolitan-style pizzas, smoked wings, Bavarian pretzels and “an elevated take on ballpark fare,” the company said.
The Water Street District is one of the most thriving parts of Dayton.
The developers have added about 514 apartments in the Water Street Flats along the river and the Delco Lofts and the Centerfield Flats, which sit at the opposite ends of the ballpark.
The Water Street District also has 60,000 square feet of offices, 20,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and it welcomed downtown Dayton’s first newly constructed hotel in decades.
“Moeller Brew Barn will be the perfect addition to Water Street District and the downtown Dayton area,” Bob Hoying, principal at Crawford Hoying, developer of Water Street District, said in a prepared statement.
