Kettering Police Patrolman Paul John Metzger died in a crash 49 years ago today while on duty.

Metzger was killed in 1972 while he was responding to a shoplifting call. His patrol car hydroplaned on a wet road at West Dorothy Lane and Patterson Boulevard and struck a vehicle, according to his Officer Down Memorial Page.

The Kettering Police Department shared a post on their Facebook Page remembering Metzger.

Metzger was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. He had served with the Kettering Police Department for just under three years. He was 28 when he was killed, his Officer Down Memorial Page said.
