A woman reported she was on the phone with her ex-boyfriend, and he was threatening to harm himself, said Dayton police Lt. Eric Sheldon.
“The caller-in stated she heard a gunshot and the male went silent,” Sheldon said.
When officers arrived on Sandhurst Drive, they spoke to people on the first floor, who were not injured.
Police cleared the home and made contact with a 25-year-old man who was holding a gun to his head and threatening to kill himself, according to police.
Officers set up a perimeter around the home and had the Hostage Negotiation Team and SWAT respond.
Around 7:51 a.m., HNT members convinced the man to surrender peacefully, Sheldon said.
He was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
The man is on probation for a domestic violence conviction, according to police.
The incident remains under investigation.
