Empty kayak prompts search on Great Miami River

Crews responded to the Great Miami River Sunday afternoon near Welcome Stadium after an unoccupied kayak was spotted in the water.

Multiple Dayton Fire Department crews searched the water surrounding the kayak as well as areas upstream, downstream and along both sides of the riverbank, said Dayton Fire Capt. Brad French.

No signs of any victims were found.

Crews received information later from Five Rivers MetroParks police that children were playing in the same area and had left safely, French said.
